“Common Courtyard” by Paweł Grobelny, designed for Saperska 30 in Poznań, won an award in the Polish Architecture XXL competition. The completed project is the best-designed public space in Poland!
For many years, Paweł Grobelny has specialized in designing public spaces and areas surrounding office and residential buildings. His projects can be found, among others, in the Albertine garden surrounding the Royal Library in Brussels and in Shanghai’s largest city park. Paweł Grobelny is also the author of a series of urban furniture for the La Défense business district in Paris and in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
When designing the common areas at SAPERSKA 30, I considered the various users who might meet here. It’s a space attractive to young people with children, to children of different ages, and to seniors. Individual pieces of furniture and play equipment have been nestled among tall grasses to create intimate zones. Various types of benches, platforms, and tables allow for spending time in larger and smaller groups. It was very important to create a common space attractive enough for residents to identify with it. A space that would offer them a breath of fresh air and encourage them to step outside when they observe it from their balconies and windows – explains Paweł Grobelny.
